Mexican Mayan Riviera......a stay in paradise!

Returned Saturday from our trip to the Mexican Mayan Riviera. We had 23 travelers with us as we flew into Cancun then traveled by motor coach to the Barcelo Tropical Resort, just south of Playa del Carmen. It was 8 days in paradise.

The beautiful sunrises, the palm trees, blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, it was wonderful. Comments from our travelers were these:

--I've never been in a place this nice.

--I think I'm in heaven.

--we don't have to go home do we?

--this is just beautiful!

We found a place on the beach and soaked up some sun. Walked in the sand and got plenty of exercise. Took a swim in the Caribbean or one of the many beautiful pools. Had a meal at one of the buffets or other specialty restaurants--food was never scarce and it was all very good. Many took a ride on the Hobie Cat Sailboats with Perry and Donna at the rudder. A few tried para sailing. There was time to go snorkeling and see some of the marine life of the area, sea turtles, sting rays and many types of beautiful fish. There were sea tricks that allowed everyone to ride right into the water and enjoy the sun. It was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy.

We took a couple of day trips. The first was to the Mayan ruins at Tulum. We saw what was left of buildings built over 2 centuries ago. Built as a port along the coast. It was magnificent. Then we went to the underground caves of Akten Chen. We walked over 600 yards through caves created by undersea rivers millions of years ago. There were stalactite's and stalagmites throughout the cave and at the end a beautiful Cenote that when the lights were turned on, was awesome. A couple of days later a shopping trip to the coastal tourist town of Playa del Carmen where many picked up their trip souvenirs.

The evenings were filled with entertainment at the resort, from singing to a circus, it was a great way to end each day.

Unfortunately, we had to come home...........but, there is always next year. Many asked if we will be going back...........we hope so, our beach chair is still sitting just next to the life guard stand.
