more amazing days...

What a couple of days!

Elko, NV to Salt Lake City yesterday and then on to Cheyenne, Wyoming today. Some interesting days let me write about them like this.
ROADS: Starting yesterday the roads were wet and icy in spots. It was snowing and raining and then snowing some more. The clouds were awesome as we watched it rain and snow across the plains and over the mountains. Made for a beautiful, yet at times mysterious day. Today much of the same. For the most part the roads were pretty clear, yet there was snow at times and a little bit of rain. The sun came out for a while this afternoon and then 20 miles from Cheyenne it got foggy, I mean really foggy. GPS comes in handy in the fog, let's you know what the road is going to do and also where you are....we made it to the hotel!

SCENERY: I could just say it was beautiful, awesome, wow! But, I've said that before about this trip haven't I. Yet, it is the truth. Even the Salt Flats and the high plains are beautiful in their own way. The mountain ranges take your breath away at times. We stopped this morning at Echo Reservoir. It was frozen over with snow on the ice and some people out ice fishing. We stopped to take some pictures and enjoy the mountains rising in the background. As we looked over the side of our perch on the hill we saw 8 mule deer below us, watching and I'm sure wishing we would leave them alone..it was a beautiful sight. As we crossed Wyoming we noticed all of the big snow fences they built and put along the road in very strategic spots. It was amazing the amount of snow those fences stopped!

HISTORY: Yesterday we stopped in Wendover, NV. Lot's of history here! The Bonneville Salt Flats where world land speed records were set! The airforce had a base there where thousands of soldiers were trained and where the crew that flew the Enola Gay began their training. We drove into Salt Lake City which is filled with history from the Mormon travel across our country to what they claimed to be Zion. Today we continued up across the mountains of Wyoming and traveled across on I80 which was the first Interstate but what is really exciting is that it was the path that early settlers traveled as they made their way to the West. It was easy for us to climb the mountains but can you imagine what it took to do this by wagon? It's pretty humbling just to think about. We stopped today to see "tree rock".....ok doesn't sound like much but when you read about it's history...it was pretty cool.

Well tonight we are in Cheyenne, two days to go on this amazing trip...can't wait for what tomorrow holds.
