a weekend to remember.........

Saturday morning began with a beautiful sunrise and our group headed for the Catalina Ferry landing in San Pedro for our trip to Catalina Island and the Island town of Avalon. On our way to the ferry we traveled through the Long Beach and Los Angeles Shipyards. What a sight to see the large cranes that are used to load the container ships. There were a few of these container ships in port and are they big!!!!

We all boarded our Ferry for Catalina and an hour later we were on the beautiful island. We took a tour of the island and then had time to shop and just enjoy the beautiful day. The island had fires last year and they came close to destroying this little bit of paradise.....but it's still there and a very beautiful spot. (The picture attached is from high over the town of Avalon looking at the harbor we arrived in.)
Today began a little bit foggy, but that lifted as we drove to Garden Grove for a worship service at the Crystal Cathedral. It's a beautiful house of worship and was a special time of worship with some very special music.

Tonight we are in Solvang. We arrived here after a nice drive up the coast and then into the foothills just off the coast, it was a beautiful drive and when we arrived the temperatures were in the high 70's(just had to throw that in there for those of you in the cold back home!!!!).
